So I was bored and decided to create a new vehicle. The Railgun Tank basically uses the Ion Plasma Tank mesh with slightly altered skins. (programmer art
![]() The tank's main weapon is its railgun, which does 350 damage per shot and passes through multiple targets. It doesn't have splash damage, but the railgun shot is thick and even does damage if the center misses a target. Fire rate is about the same as the Goliath's main turret, but shots are more accurate. To compensate for the lack of splash damage, the turret turns a bit faster than the Goliath's. (full circle in 4s instead of 5.5s) The secondary turret fires explosive rounds that do about 30 damage and have a small splash damage radius. It fires slower than the Goliath minigun turret, but is a bit more precise than that and more efficient against vehicles. Download The package contains just the vehicle and a preconfigured factory class. Feel free to myLevel it if you don't want to include a separate package file. Oh, and if any players want to test it: "summon WVRailgunTank.RailgunTank" spawns it in any vehicle-supporting offline game type. [updates] 2010-10-19: damage slightly increased to 375, maximum zoom level increased to that of Sniper Rifle and Lightning Gun

but maybe u should also include a mutator to allow the player to play with the railgun vehicle.

Maybe u should improve the power of the railgun tank. 350 is too weak since there isn't any splash radius.

also, please improve the zoom of primary gun! since this is somewhat a sniper tank, it would be cool to see what you are shooting at in the distance, especially since the railgun is a hitscan weapon.

Damage: 350 is already quite powerful. You can insta-kill a raptor.
Add to that the turret if you have a gunner (29 min. - 31 max * 0.6 = 17.4 min. - 18.6 max. per shot on vehicles). You got a pretty good alternative to a Goliath here. Zoom: depends on what Wormbo had in mind, but if he based the railgun idea on the Quake II railgun (I think it appeared with this one) you have to consider it even had no zoom. So as a railgun tank it has already a generous zoom. However, if it is destined to become a sniper tank then I guess you are right, it needs to be increased. |

Wow, I neglected this forum a bit.
I'm with lilalurl on the damage. Yes, it's a bit low compared to the accumulated splash damage a Goliath can do. But then again, against single targets it's about as effective. In fact, you can hit multiple targets at the same time if you manage to line them up. And each of them takes the full 350 points of damage. That is made a bit easier by the fact that it's no thin trace as most other hit-scan weapons use it, but actually has a thickness of about 30 units. (TBH I'm not sure if that's the total width or just half of it, but I think it's total.) The zoom. Well, I didn't base it on any specific railgun implementation. Though I did get inspired by Tiberian Sun's Mammoth Mk.II, which also served as one source for the firing sound. (The other component some Sniper Rifle shot sound, I think from C&C Renegade, but heavily modified to pump up the relatively flat Mammoth shot sound.) I suppose I could increase the zoom level, but I wonder if that would really make much sense. Didn't test that yet, but precision might be limited by the way vehicle turret aiming works. [edit] Just checked: I didn't make the railgun spot-on accurate, but only 3 times as accurate as the Goliath. The increased maximum zoom allows you to identify targets easier, but at that long range you might randomly miss small targets like players on foot. The update is network compatible if used via the WVRailgunTank.u, i.e. a server with the updated package will increase the damage, while a client with the updated package will increase the zoom level. Keep in mind that for myleveling you need to remove any references from your map package, save, restart UEd and only then reimport.

The damage is adequate to hard aiming and to the interval between the shots. I guess you mostly have not enough time to shot some attacking Raptor two times. Hitting more targets by one shot is a nice option, but very very rare. I don't even have a problem with the zoom, it could be maybe too powerful with a zoom like the Ballista has.
