Hi guys,

I know I haven't been around, and yes I know it sucks that the server has been down for like 2 weeks now. It seems that the host company I was using (getfps.com) is having troubles and even thier website is offline. It's a shame too cuz I had them for months without a problem and they had the best price compared to any other server provider.

I'm going to set up server with a different company and the IP will be different. But before I do, I wanted to ask how many of you have a Steam account? Meaning you are NOT using a non-steam/cracked version of the game.

I could go with a company like GameServers.com but they don't allow cracked servers. Most server providers will NOT let you set your server to non-steam. After a lot of searching, I only found just one that will let you do that. But even then, I don't know if I should go with them.

I don't really want to go with a "Steam only server" even though I won't have any problems with them. I would rather keep it as a non-steam server so that way anyone can join in the game. Does anyone know of any server providers that allow you to setup a non-steam server? If you do and the price is good, I'll set up 2 servers (One for normal maps and the other for custom maps only).

I'll keep the backup server running in the meantime. But If I don't find a good host for a non-steam server, then I'll have to go with a Steam only server

Or do you think it would be a good idea if we took turns hosting the server from home? That is if you internet connection and PC can handle of course.

Or if any one can help money wise we can set up additional servers for versus mode and survival mode if you guys are interested. Servers costs 99 cents per player a month, so an 8 player server would be $7.92 a month. This is the cheapest I have found. It usually costs more than this.

Or if multiple people can pitch in we can rent a VPS server which is $40 a month. The best part about a VPS is that you will get no lag (as long as you are not downloading a bunch of stuff while playing the game).

Or someone have a better idea?

That's what I figured. I don't really want to go with a Steam only server. Many people that we know will not be able to connect if I do that. That's why I asked if anyone knows a server provider that allows your server to be non-steam. I only found one. I can try them and see how things go. If it doesn't work out, then we need find another, but the problem is that I don't see any others.

I was thinking of setting up multiple servers if others can help me pay for them. Right now with Darkyta's help, we will have at least 2 servers.

I was thinking if you guys play Versus and Survival modes, that we could set up servers for those as well. Something along the lines of this:

Primary server
Coop Mode with Normal maps and custom alternate versions of the normal maps.

Secondary server
Coop Mode with ONLY custom maps

Tertiary server
Versus Mode with Normal maps and custom alternate versions of the normal maps.

Quaternary Server
Versus Mode with ONLY custom maps

Quinary Server
Survival Mode with normal and custom maps.

Or maybe just have a few servers that are identical and let's you change the game mode between Coop, Versus, and Survival. What do you think?

Cuz if we dont find it well then STEAM it be, anywhay cant do nothing about it.But really i gotta say that backup server is great and free too. :]

This was the hosting company Brian was using but seems they are now closed. I was pondering if this is his reason for closing his server. My server was hosted by gameservers, I had no problems with it everything went well. But they wont allow me to have it as non steam so I closed it and also looking for another hosting company.

Yeah, I definitely gonna try to go with non-steam first. I will only use "Steam only" as a last resort.

And yeah the back up server is free, but my internet connection sometimes makes it lag, and plus I can't leave my PC on all the time because there's other people in the house. Like right now, I won't be home until Saturday and I don't know if the back up server is still running or not.

Well, I still found it quite awkward that he shut everything down like that. I mean Locogamers was very popular, so I dunno what gives unless it was a money issue.

Yeah, I was poking at GameServers.com before and they made it very clear that they will NOT host a cracked or non-steam server for you. And that really sucks cuz it looks like they had very good service otherwise.

So whacha up to man? I didn't think you'd still want to set up a server based on what we spoke about.

They must have a very fast connection to run all those servers from home. I would do the same thing but leaving the PC on all the time is gonna rack up the electric bill.

L4d1 servers to me is not like they were back then they are more dead, l4d2 servers are always packed. From moment I host a game for l4d2 servers get full almost right away.

When I host a server for l4d1 servers take time to be full. I sometimes host steam servers for both l4d1 or l4d2 and they seem to be pretty cool. Plus the addons are amazing I love the mods for l4d2 way better than l4d1. I'm not sure yet what am gonna do. I found a server for l4d2 that am trying to contact the host. But strangely the server strongly reminds me of locogamers.
