Add Support for Ventrilo 4.0.0

We've just successfully upgraded to Ventrilo 4.0.0, however, now, the corresponding GameTracker banner is reporting the server as being down, despite me being able to connect, without issue.

Our provider has advised me to report the issue here, as it would appear to be a case of your not yet fully supporting this latest version.

Here is my aforementioned server:

Any help with sorting this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, then, in advance.

Your server variables are reporting

"version 3.0.6"

Other servers reporting this version are scanning correctly.

As said, my server is now running 4.0.0; since I'm complaining about the GameTracker scanning, it's not likely to provide a reliable read.

'Preciate your help, all the same.

http://www.ventrilo.com/status.php

Produces no status for your server.
I tested and it does work for other Ventrilo servers.

I'm not sure what to tell you; we have all been gaming with Ventrilo, tonight, as usual.

My point is that the server is clearly running, yet showing as down; that you can't find the server via Ventrilo's server status service is likely more indicative that Ventrilo, themselves, haven't updated the service to support the latest client version.

Just as well, the GameTracker banner is showing our server as being down, despite a good number of us using it for hours, tonight.

Any help to actually solve why that is would be greatly appreciated.

::EditT::

Jus realized, above, that you said other servers running version 3.0.6 are scanning fine. Yes, I'm aware, and my server was also scanning fine, prior to updating to v4.0.0.

Now that we have, v4.0.0 doesn't appear to be scanning properly, having just been released about a week ago.

I'm hoping a support staff member can comment as to what I can expect in the way of an ETA until GameTracker is synced up and supporting the latest version of Ventrilo.

So, someone's had the power to rename and relocate my thread, but hasn't commented to say they've done so, nor spoken on the issue itself.

Okay… well… thanks(?)!

I will try and give some perspective;
- I know nothing about Ventrilo personally, hence my suggestions have been based upon reasoning and experience of similar issues in the past with other types of servers;
- the thread has been moved by an admin, presumably on the basis of greater knowledge that Ventrilo 4 may well require that a new category is added i.e. Ventrilo 3 and Ventrilo 4 to be separate. Hence it becomes an issue of adding support rather than a 'bug';
- clarification; a 'bug' is when software (this site) fails to perform as specified. By continuing to scan Ventrilo 3 servers correctly there is no bug.
- not being one of the development team, I can not be certain of this however, I would not expect Gametracker to support Ventrilo 4 status at least until after the Ventrilo creators can do so. My understanding is that game/voice server developers release details of a query interface/API that sites like Gametracker can use. Until they publish such information, it would seem unlikely that Gametracker will be able to provide support. Please keep in mind that is no more than logical conjecture on my part.

Final notes;
- game servers that constantly report as 'dead' are eventually dropped automatically from Gametracker. I can not tell you what the time period is as I do not have access to the algorithm. The time span can vary from days to weeks.
- The Ideas and Requests forum is not a discussion forum. It is for people to '+1' a request or to provide additional information that may assist developers in completing their task, such as links to APIs from official Games developers.
- No status, progress or ETA reports are provided. Requests for these are normally deleted.

Cheers, chimaera500.

As said, I appreciate your attempts to assist, if maybe I felt you could have better clarified your conclusions. For instance, when you told me that my server variables were reporting v3.0.6 (presumably via GT), and that other servers running that version were fine, I was confused, thinking you were suggesting my server ISN'T, despite what I'd said, running v4.0.0.

When you said Ventrilo's status reporting service wasn't providing anything for my server, whilst it does for others, again, I couldn't be sure what you were trying to say; perhaps that my server was, in fact, down, despite my OP… but, then, that wouldn't make sense, as I was actively using it (as said).

In both cases, there are certainly takeaways from your contributions that could well prove rather handy for any staffer that might eventually reply, here, but, as a whole, left a lot to be desired, and, in so doing, adding, at least for me, to the confusion. Your latest post did help provide a bit of context for the ones before it, mind.

** * **

I actually made the deduction that this were the more appropriate section for my thread, after initially being a little unsure where best to post (i.e. Ventrilo forum, here, or under requests), and have no problem with that, whatsoever; didn't think I should worry too much, as I know that things are likely moved to where they should be, in the end—just felt it'd be nice for someone to say, "hey, moved your thread, and I should think someone will be getting 'round to helping you, shortly, now it's more visible."

** * **

Makes sense that GT would wait on Ventrilo to provide them the query resources you mentioned, but not a guarantee that they wouldn't maybe press Ventrilo for them, lest their own services suffer, potentially with many servers reporting as down and losing their rank.

Point taken, however, and I'll see if maybe posting something on Ventrilo forums helps speed things along.

** * **

Again, when you say that status/progress/ETA report requests are deleted, I'm not sure what the purpose of mentioning that is. Possibly to caution me, but my first post is clearly one of confusion, where I don't even know what the cause is; going along with some of your apparent conclusions, I said maybe someone could, then, give me an ETA or literally ANYthing in response (read: this isn't me impatiently just asking when something will be fixed; rather, I'm trying to initiate some troubleshooting on the matter).

Nevertheless, thanks for your efforts, and any put forth in future, and hopefully someone with an inside track on what's going on will post here, soon.

Regards,
Julique (-db-goNe)

If/when support is added for a new version of Ventrilo, it would be posted here or on the home page. Status updates are not given for obvious reasons, but as long as your idea still exists in this forum then it is still available for consideration. Support for new games/versions can take days, months, years, or never come. It depends on availability, interest, priorities, etc.

No need to bump this further. Other users will express their interest if it is something they want as well.
I am retired from GameTracker after 11 years and will not be responsive for support requests.
