Some 2013 Games Will Require 64 bit Operating System
"We'll have Frostbite-powered games in 2013 that will _require_ a 64-bit OS," announced Johan Andersson - Rendering Architect at DICE who is worked on Frostbite and Battlefield 3 and is working on future DICE/EA games

DICE is no stranger to pushing the limits with the game engine – for the PC version Battlefield 3 dropped support for Windows XP requiring either Vista or Windows 7. Many Battlefield 3 players upgraded their systems so they could be ready to play the game. This move to supporting 64 bit windows means that future games can take advantage of the additional memory that a 64 bit OS can support.

Johan suggests “If you are on 32-bit, great opportunity to upgrade to Windows 8”. He also states that it is “perfectly fine to use Windows 7 or Vista (SP2) as well, as long it is 64-bit.” At this point, it’s difficult to know what future games he is specifically referring to. Is it Bad Company 3, Battlefield 4, Mirror's Edge 2, or Dead Space 3? Or some other titles? It is very uncertain at this point – but clearly the future of PC gaming is 64 bit.
