Discord can use a free and also pay Nitro subscription what unlocks more features and can change also theme too and Google's securekey also can add to secure account
I like Ventrilo for the Nostalgia of it. Some of US have very Old Computer Systems, Ventrilo seemed to give that old computer something to do. And it ran Ventrilo Very good for all Retro Gaming Lan Parties. It Doesn't seem to want to work anymore. I have moved on to Mumble that has a Very nice Android app called Plumble. It uses security features above and beyond what I need and impossible to run on any outdated Linux computer.
My Order - Mumble, then Discord. Today, Ventrilo Seems Very Dead.
Vent should have died, a long time ago, it has always been and will always be TRASH...
The title should more read, "MUMBLE, and TS" ;)
But really, Mumble and TS have always been WAY superior to that Vent garbage! And discord blows them all away IMHO. I don't care if it's "heavy", have you seen modern GAMES!? I'm sure when TS/Vent/Mumble first came out we couldn't have imagined a SINGLE GAME taking up 300GB!!! But they're out there, and probably some even bigger than that. That just happens to be the largest that I'm currently aware of. So how could one complain about "heavy" when the games we play take up almost 1/2 TB!!! When put into THAT perspective, discord is still VERY LIGHT!
That being said, about the only thing that discord pwns on is the fact that yep, you don't have to pay any money! You don't really have to worry about the whole server/client thing, even when you set up your own "servers" (your obviously using THEIRS)...!
That being said, it is also a downfall of it IMHO. Being a PURIST, I actually like running my own servers for things like this, so that I do NOT have to DEPEND on any EXTERNAL service/provider in order for it to work. IE: for LAN parties. If you were having an actual LAN party - read: with NO WAN/internet - well then, discord just AIN'T gonna cut it for you or that particular use! In that case, something like TS3, or Mumble would still come out on top!
So whether it's just the 'nostalgia' of it, or you're having a LAN party, or you're just a purist like me... In order of cool to suck, would be: MUMBLE, TS3, DISCORD... Conversely, if you just want something that works, quick and easy: DISCORD, MUMBLE, TS3...
Personally, I don't even like how the TS3 "free" license for server limits you to 32 slots! For this reason, MUMBLE comes out above TS3. Heck, in that regard even (which I DO have archived) TS2 beats TS3, because the "free license" for TS2 servers are 1000 slots! Nonetheless, Mumble has beat just about everything in terms of latency, at least within a LAN (party), so I personally always opt for Mumble use, or discord. Not to say TS3 isn't "good", and I will use it if joining in play with others that are, but Vent is such trash, I've literally refused playing with any N00Bs that use that garbage! There's also no real reason to go as far back as TS2, when Mumble is still being updated! Plus, Mumble is theoretically UNLIMITED slots. That is, as long as your hardware (server and network/bandwidth) can handle it, you can connect as many users as your hardware will allow! Which keeps mumble at the top of the list for me! Discord is very convenient though for not using your own resources, and heck, almost everyone HAS switched to it at this point, because it is so nice!
So all that being said, my personal preference is still: 1-MUMBLE 2-DISCORD 3-TS3
TeamSpeak integrates with the ACRE system from Arma 3 for example. It's the most realistic IP-based simulation of a military radio communication you can find out there. This is what is needed in reality, not fancy Discord screenshot sharing or screen sharing stuff. In real battle, you're not gonna share screens with anyone. Plus Discord doesn't allow you to self-host your own VoIP server. They have their own servers and these can easily get saturated in higher usages.
Personally i really do not like Discord. Yeah it runs... its HUGE tho. And this and that... i dont want to have all that on my system. And all the libs that come with it. No need for it.
Discord works amazingly well. Had fun on Vent for years typing "i went to the movies with a man with boobies" over and over until we couldn't breathe from laughing. Getting my younger friends to leave and join ugly ass Vent would be like trying to get them to ditch their iPhone for a Blackberry or getting them to use Deezer over Spotify. Ain't happenin'. For better or worse the world has moved on.
